B EPS Piraeus, Group A

1-4

AGET Charavgi Stadium

Attendance 64

Entry €2.5

Kick-Off 15:30

My friend Sofoklis and I headed further south-west for the second game of the day. We had been here last Sunday when my camera had run out of battery, but we wanted to come back again. The stadium had become an instant favourite.

It’s located in the Charavgi neighbourhood of Keratsini, in Piraeus, just next to the cement factory it got its name from (ΑΓΕΤ). The view of the sea, the ferries, and the sunset is interrupted by the towers of the factory, creating a unique landscape. But that’s not all. The stadium is built on a slope, so you actually walk downstairs when entering. Inside, it’s compact and cosy. In the middle of the stand there is a DIY lounge and in front of it, there are fish-tavern-like tables. It’s a stadium with so much character that almost feels more like a hangout place than a football ground.

Asteras Keratsiniou is one of the teams that use this stadium for their home matches. They’re currently playing in Group A of the second division of the Piraeus league and have been around for almost a century. Their opponents, Asteras Nikaias, on the other hand, were only founded in 2007 and are based in the area of Nikaia, where we had just been before. Both teams are not doing very well so far and are sitting in the bottom two places of the standings, so the game was a bit of a derby in that sense.

We got there around the 10th minute, and the score was already 1-1. The match had a good tempo and was quite entertaining. Both teams had their chances in what we saw of the first half, but it was the visiting side who scored just before the halftime whistle. Keratsini’s coach was furious. The second half was a bit different, and it seemed like the home side couldn’t offer much. Nikaia scored two more goals and by the end of the game I started feeling sorry for Keratsini’s players, knowing their coach’s rant was coming.
