Sollentuna is a suburb in the north of Stockholm, and a game of the local team always makes for a nice day out. Sollentuna FK play in the north group of Ettan, the third tier of Swedish football, and today they were hosting FC Stockholm for the last game of the season. FC Stockholm is a young club backed by a Swedish multimillionaire. They were founded in 2010 and have since achieved multiple promotions, leading them to contest for a spot in Superettan this season, Sweden’s second division. They’re only two points behind Umeå, the leader of the group. If they win and Umeå lose, they will finish first and promote directly, but if they remain second, they will have to face a Superettan team in the promotion play-offs.

Sollentuna’s lovely stadium is located by Edsviken Lake and feels modern, like most Swedish grounds. The turnout was good, with fans of both sides present. FC Stockholm’s fans performed a small pyro show at the beginning of the match, but it was Sollentuna’s young ultras who won the battle of the stands, singing throughout the whole game.

I don’t remember many details from the game, as I was mostly catching up with my friend Fabian, but it was the visiting side who dominated the game. Sollentuna held their own well but eventually conceded a goal. FC Stockholm had done their part, but unfortunately for them, the announcement came over the speakers that Umeå had scored—and then again. The season ended with wins for both Umeå and FC Stockholm, which meant the latter will have to go through play-offs.
